High Expectations Led to Inspirational Children and Parents

family life fitness goals inspiration parenting sports teamwork

The first event of the ITU World Championships was held today with an impressive group of athletes tackling a swim and run. The event is designed to draw the community in and to let them utilize the course that will feature the world championship on Sunday. Athletes as young as ten years old participated. More young people will be out tomorrow for the second event: a relay style triathlon for sixth and seventh graders. A sprint distance triathlon rounds out the offerings for those who want to enjoy the beautiful venue without having to qualify for the main event. Some of Sunday's racers used today as a warm-up to swim the course they will face in a few days.

Everywhere you look the streets and hotels are filled with athletes that definitely look world class. There is a great comraderie among and between teams. Everyone seems to be relaxed and confident. Some one once advised me that if you want to excel at something you must hang out with people who expect more of you than you expect of yourself. This has got to qualify as such a place. It is, in a word, inspirational to be here.

Today, as parents, we also have the opportunity to lead by example, to inspire, and to set the bar high for our children. As parents,  if your days are devoted almost entirely to your families you can hold your place in line for future adventures if you stay fit and active while you are raising your young children. Exercising Values is designed to help both you and your children reach your potential and stay lean and fit.

The fitness level of most of the people I'm rubbing shoulders with far exceeds my own but nonetheless I'm glad that I made a consistent enough effort through the years of raising six children to be able to participate in such an event. Dream big dreams for yourself and for your children and then take action to make them come true. Daily practice of the Exercising Values program is a great place to start and who knows what finish line it might lead you or your children to.
